how to print 4×6 photos on an HP printer

Are you tired of wasting paper by printing your photos on regular 8.5×11 printer paper? Well, then you’ll be happy to know that you can print your photos on an HP printer in 4×6 format! Here’s how:

Turn on your printer.

1.Turn on your HP printer. Make sure it’s connected to your computer and that you have photo paper loaded into the tray.
2.Open the photo you want to print in the editing software of your choice. For this tutorial, we’ll be using Adobe Photoshop CS6.
3.Click on “File” at the top of the screen and then click “Print.” A new window will appear.
4.Click on the “Paper” drop-down menu and select “HP Advanced Photo Paper.”
5.Click on the “Quality & Media” drop-down menu and select “Maximum DPI.”
6.Click on the “Layout” drop-down menu and select “4×6.”
7.Make sure the checkbox next to “Print Borderless” is selected and then click on the “Print” button at the bottom of the window.

Remove all the paper in the input tray.


Open the paper tray door and remove any paper from the input tray. Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already on. Load 4×6 inch photo paper into the input tray with the short edge facing towards you and the print side facing down. If your photo paper came in a protective sleeve, remove the sleeve before loading the paper into the printer.

For Rear-loading input tray printer: Load 4×6 photo paper with the glossy or print side facing up.


To print 4×6 photos on an HP printer, you need to load 4×6 photo paper into the rear-loading input tray. Make sure the glossy or print side is facing up, and then select the 4×6 photo paper size when prompted during the print job.

For Front-loading input tray printer: Load 4×6 photo paper with the glossy or print side facing down.


Open the Paper Tray Door, then slide the Paper Width Guide outward.

Load 4×6 photo paper into the Input Tray with short edge forward and glossy or print side down. For best results, use HP Advanced Photo Paper.

Slide the Paper Width Guide inward until it rests against the edge of the paper.

Close the Paper Tray Door.

Adjust the paper guides so that it is touching the paper’s edge.


1. Load 4×6 photo paper into the input tray.
2. On the printer control panel, touch the Setup, Preferences, or Tools icon.
3. Touch Paper Settings or Paper Type/Quality.
4. Select Photo Paper, Glossy Photo Paper, or Glossy Photo Paper Borderless, and then touch Done.
5. Touch Print & Scan and then touch Maintain Your Printer.
6. Touch Align Print Cartridges.

On your computer, open the photo that you want to print.

Click File, then click Print.

The Print dialog box appears.

Under “Print Which Photos,” select the 4 x 6 option.

Click Print.

Go to the main menu and click File. Select Print. Or press Ctrl + P on the keyboard.



In the Print dialog box, make sure your printer is selected in the drop-down menu at the top. Then click the button labeled “4×6” in the bottom left corner. This will open a new window with your printer’s 4×6 photo printing settings.

Adjust your print settings. Such as Select Paper Size to 4×6 inches.


1.Insert your photo paper into the printer tray. Most HP printers have a main paper tray that can accommodate letter or legal-size paper and a photo paper tray that’s slightly smaller, for 4-by-6-inch or 5-by-7-inch sheets. If your printer has two trays, check the settings to make sure you’re sending your print job to the correct tray.
2.Open the photo you want to print and click File. This option is in the top-left corner of the window. A drop-down menu will appear.
3.Click Print…. This option is near the bottom of the File drop-down menu. A pop-out menu will appear on the right side of the window.
4.Click Printer properties…. It’s near the top of the pop-out menu. Doing so will open another pop-out menu in a new window.
5.Click Paper Size and make sure 4×6 is selected from the drop-down menu here., 7 If it isn’t, click it, then click Apply in the bottom-left corner of this pop-out window and click OK in the bottom-right corner of the next one that opens., 8, 9 You can also select other options on this page, such as print quality (dpi) and whether you want your photo printed in landscape or portrait mode.,

Click Print.

Open the photo you want to print. Click the photo to select it, then click File in the upper-left corner. Select Print from the drop-down menu.
A preview of your photo will appear in the center of the screen. Look at the left and right sidebars for options to adjust your photo, like making it black and white or changing the paper size. If you’re happy with how your photo looks, click Print in the lower-right corner of the window.
